Exploring the local regional adventures of @1_year_on_the_road

Marc, Camille and their young daughter Ella Perpetu have packed up the family camper and set off for a year along adventure around Australia.

The Mauritian/Aussies started their travels in April, in Western Australia and are taking their 4-wheel drive and camper trailer exploring all that Australia has to offer.

The family have recently traveled through the Cairns and surrounding regions with the main sights they wanted to see being the Great Barrier Reef and the Whitsundays.

Whilst in the region their favourite family destinations have been Kuranda, Feathers and Friends, Mission Beach and Cairns.

When talking about starting the adventure, Marc explained "we didn’t have inspiration really to start the trip.

It was something we wanted to do for a few years, more like a bucket list kind thing.

With covid and closed borders and nowhere to go it was the perfect timing.

We had no issues crossing the borders so far"

Travelling with their young daughter they had to be considerate of her needs.

We think about the amount of time we spend driving per day but spending 24hrs with her, we are quite lucky as not all parents get to enjoy their child that much.

She is having a great time and we have met a lot of families travelling with kids and they love to play together.

For people looking to travel, they offer these tips, download offline maps, don’t be in a rush, give yourself time and drive to the road conditions.

Allow for repairs in your budget and if you have a long drive, pack lunch as it will save time and money.

Long range fuel tanks help a lot and install torque pro app in your car, it indicates if there is an issue before failure.

As for things to pack they recommend the following, first aid kit, spare water (10L refillable water containers), good toolbox, tinny (which we don’t have but miss), bike for the kids, pool noodles, camp oven, foldable fire pit, spare stabilizing legs for trailer/caravan, multi meter, lock tight, blender with different attachments, battery operated chainsaw, drill, silicone spray, vacuum sealer and bags, drone and a go pro, a good car stand and a high lift jack (optional but very handy), recovery tracks and a shovel. Satellite phone. Lockable bin.
