The Complete Guide to Online Studies and Being an Online Student: Everything You Need to Know

Aioli everyone, we hope you are all doing well, as you can see from the title of this blog, we are going to discuss how studying online shaped our experience studying for our degree. If you are new to the blog, we recently just graduated with a Bachelor of Communications from the University of South Australia (UniSA), which we solely studied online,
We started our degree in 2018 after we had completed a diploma by online study, so we decided to take that achievement one step further and use it to build into a bachelor's degree, but we didn't initially start with UniSA, we were with Griffith University for some time but we had to travel to do examinations, so when we found the degree with UniSA and saw that it was solely online, that is when we said yes and we have stuck with it the whole way through.
But in conversation with other students throughout the degree, we realize online study is not for everybody, some students thrive on having face-to-face interaction with their teachers and tutors, but if you think you can take it on, it is a study route that definitely shouldn't be ruled out.
#1: Creating connections
#3: Learning about technology
#4: In Conclusion
#1: Creating connections
Similar to in-person study, building connections with teachers, tutors and fellow students is a big part of online study. While having an online internet connection is essential, it is these friendship connections that you will have created, that will help shape your experience with your studies in your course.
Just like in-person study, having familiar faces and friends in your course can make it so more enjoyable and comfortable to study, and even if you are travelling through the course material at a good pace, having these sorts of connections, will not only be helpful if you find yourself in a spot of trouble, but they can assist with teamwork, ideas and brainstorming if you hit a mind blank or working on an assessment piece.
Reflecting, on our study time during our degree, having connections like these worked out as a blessing for us, just like real-life friends you can bounce ideas back and forth from each other, they are like instant industry connections at the end of it all, and they can really help give you helpful tips, tricks and recommendations since they understand the path that you are on.
We highly recommend that if you are a part of a online study course, to give a chance and create these connections, as we have certainly not regretted it.
#2: Are you disciplined enough?
Besides having great connections, having good discipline is essential when studying online, if you can stay disciplined it helps you keep up to date with your studies and stops you from falling behind and having your studies avalanche on top of you. Having good discipline in terms of online study looks at staying organized, staying on task when needed and allocating tasks out when you can best perceive and comprehend them.
Studying online has taught us this skill in more ways than one, we have become more proficient with our time management skills, we are a lot better at delegating our tasks, and we find better working environments that are conducive to learning and studying.
But we do ask before you take on any online study, please consider whether you are you disciplined to achieve your study goals? Will you be responsible enough to stay disciplined to keep up with the course materials? These are definitely some factors to think about before spending any funds on an online course.
#3: Learning about technology
When it comes to online study of course you will get to learn more about technology particularly software that is constantly evolving to make workplaces more efficient, while we realize computers, tech and software aren't everyone's cup of tea, it is very handy to know, so before you venture out into the world you know how it all works.
Before we started studying for our degree, we had some pretty limited knowledge of blogs and blogging platforms, having tried some blogs in the past on the recommendations of friends, but when the university recommended as communications students, we should keep a blog to document our online studies we leapt at the chance and built this site right here using WIX.
In the past, we had used Blogspot to create and host our blog pages, but going forward, we found WIX was more comprehensible, and we had more creative freedom in how the page was created and looked. WIX has been amazing in building a site and blogging, if you ever want to host a page or a blog, we highly recommend you check out WIX. WIX as an online software has been amazing.
But besides WIX there are so many helpful and creative software packages online now that can help you complete almost any task in any industry that you may need, and if you are scared of technology, most of them are easy to use with step-by-step instructions and tutorials, but if you put your mind to it, you can accomplish anything.
#3: In Conclusion
How you choose to study is your choice, but at the end of the day, please don't rule out online learning because it does have some great benefits over attending classes face-to-face.
But if you are willing to put in the time and effort, willing to stay disciplined, create strong connections and will to have an open mind to technology and software, then online study could be up your alley, there really is no limit when you put your mind to it,
