Aioli everyone, we hope you have all been well, this week we are going to look at another form of storytelling, breaking away from books, and taking the plunge into the realms of K-Dramas, if you are unfamiliar with the world of K-Dramas they are dramas that come from South Korea and like books, their storylines can be so alluring and imaginative. In blog, we are going to share some Tips on how to navigate the world of K-Dramas.

Starting from the beginning, Tips on how to navigate the world of K-Dramas

We started out watching K-Dramas through our love for K-pop. In K-Pop there are lots of artists and groups that do tracks for dramas, so naturally, that left us wanting to know more about the music and how it related to the stories in the dramas, and honestly, sharing from our own experience, once you start watching one drama, you will want to watch as many as you can, it defiantly can become an addiction, if not glued in by the storylines, it will probably be for the actors and the music.

Opening The Door

We sincerely apologise if we have opened the door to a new addiction for you but once you have watched one drama that you like, you are bound to find many more that will too.

But we like to think, that finding a good drama is like finding a good book, if you read the synopsis of a book that you think you might like, it is the same as reading the synopsis of a drama you might like, you can only truly know after checking it out, just like opening the cover to start reading, opening the door to a new drama the first step.

Based on a Recommendation

It is not only the synopsis of a drama that could hook you in to watch, but you could also get good recommendations from family and friends or even the viewing platform where you are watching dramas egging you on to watch another drama.

Viewing Platforms

At the moment, we like to watch most of our K-dramas on Netflix, and if you have used this platform before, you would know it likes to give you lots of recommendations on what to watch next based on what you have already watched. Based on what we have experienced, Netflix takes into account the genre and types of storylines of the dramas you have watched to create a recommendation based on percentage level that it thinks you will like, and based of some of these recommendations, we have found some really good dramas that we hadn't even heard.

But the one downside we have found with this system is that if you are like us and wanting to explore more different types of genres of dramas, the recommendations only give you a glance on what you have already watched, so if you have watched a lot of romance and want a recommendation on a horror it isn't necessarily going to give you that, just something to keep in mind if you use Netflix.

When it comes to watching dramas online, Netflix isn't necessarily your only option, there are lots of different platforms online that you can use, it is just up to your personal preference and comfort on which platform you decide use, but for us, Netflix is the easiest for us to use and the translation from Korean to English is the most understandable and smooth, we have tried Viki in the past but sometimes we found the translations a bit rough and choppy to watch and understand, but no matter which platform you choose, we hope it brings the most fulfillment of the drama to you.

Going Forward

We hope you have found these tips helpful if you want to start watching some K-Dramas or even if you a seasoned professional. We would love to hear to what tips you have used to start your K-Drama viewing or if any you can recommend to others to start watching as well. We always love good recommendations as well, so if you have any favourite dramas, we would love to hear about them, please feel free to share in the comments, on socials, let's all chat and have some fun discussions.
