Aioli Everyone, we hope you have all been well, we know we did say, in our last blog that from here on out our content would be changing since we aren't students anymore, but we couldn't resist this last bit of graduation content since this was a really big step for us, it was like the last hurray saying we could be potentially done with study, but who knows what the future holds yet.

As most of you would already know, we were external students for pretty much the entirety of the study of our degree, we only stepped foot on campus the day before our graduation day to make sure all our dues were paid, but marking this occasion with the perfect outfit that screamed us was essential, we mean it is not every day you get to celebrate donning the cap and gown, we had to make it special with an outfit that was truly us.

Preface

As we always say, we can only share from our own experience that got us to that point in time, and we can only give you all recommendations and inspiration from that, it is entirely up to you if want to take this on board and consider the same things that we did, but we hope it makes the process easier for you.

#1: What is the University's Dress Code?

Firstly, Congratulations on your graduation, you have achieved such a huge milestone in your journey, and it is time to celebrate, you have achieved such greatness, and what better way to do it, than in an outfit that screams this is who I am.

But before you can start picking out outfits, you first need to find out what is University's Dress Code when it comes to graduations, whether are there certain styles or pieces that you should steer clear of, but essentially what styles do they recommend.

For the University that we attended, the University of South Australia, the recommended dress code was Business, Smart casual, so no jeans, no sandshoes, dress as if you were attending a business conference. But we also had our own perspectives going into the event, we essentially wanted a green dress as this was my Dad's favourite colour, if you are new to this blog, my Dad passed away in 2018, and wearing green would be honouring him since it was his favourite colour, but in respects to everything else we planned on keeping it all pretty simple e.g. the accessories simple, as to not to take away from the cap and gown.

But once you can ascertain what the University's Dress Code is, you can start looking at what you would like to wear for the event.

#2: Choosing a Style

Once we had selected a dress that we felt comfortable in, we used the style and colours of the dress as a base to style all the accessories and shoes.

If you haven't seen our Instagram account, we have thrown in a cheeky selfie or 2 on there, you can find us under the username @_walkwithwilz_, but the dress we went with was Stella Clothing's Night Pebble Dress in Sage, we bought it at Myers, while it is no longer available on the Stella Clothing website, we did find it on special at Myers, Stella Night Pebble Dress In Sage/Milk | MYER

To style the accessories to go with the dress, we used the white accents of the milk pebbles on dress, that reminded us so much of pearls to base our accessories, if you have a design or pattern on your dress you could do something similar like this to help you style your outfit, and to keep the white accessories flowing, we paired the dress with some white sandals to complete the look.

We feel like the last thing you want to do on your graduation day is wear an outfit with accessories that make you look haphazard, sticking to a select theme/style will help you organise out your outfit, so you don't turn up on the day looking like you have just stepped out of a circus, unless that is the style you're going for, but we would highly doubt it.

#3: Are you Comfortable?

At the end of the day, the question we like to ask is, are you comfortable in your outfit?

Because if you don't then it is really going to show in the photos, and it will just make for an overall miserable day, even though you will only be in our outfit for the mostly, like half the day, it is much better that you were something that makes you feel comfortable and stylish, than something just for the sake of photos,

For us, we knew from the schedule that the University gave us for the day, that we would be having to cross across different roads and going from building to building to register attendance and then to be fitted for our gown, so we didn't want to wear a big heel or a tight-fitting dress since we knew that would be so uncomfortable, so we did opted for a flowy dress and a smaller comfortable heal.

If you are like us and don't usually like wearing dresses and the high heels, give yourself the chance beforehand the event to get comfy with your dress and to break in your heels, there is nothing worse than tripping over or at worst breaking your ankle at the price of looking fashionable.

So, at the end of the day, please dress with your comfort in mind, if you are at ease, it will show on your face and demeanor, not to mention will make for more comfortable photos.
