"Key Factors to Keep in Mind When Revamping Your Website"

Your Ultimate Guide to Revamping Your Website with WIX.com

Aioli everyone, we hope you have all been well, if you have been following the site for a while, surprise! What do you all think of the newly revamped site? Looks pretty suave don't you think, while we are still fixing up little bits and pieces here and there, it is for the most part complete, but we hope you enjoy the fresh new site,

We decided to revamp the old site because we felt it was getting too cluttered with its layout and style, and as much as we tried to fix up issues such as SEO, the old site just felt out of touch with what we wanted it to be, so welcome to the fresh new site and its new features, say hello to the new forum and members pages, we hope this helps to increase site's engagement and give you all new avenues to chat and connect.

But if you are like us and planning to revamp your site, there are many ways you can do it, but before you begin there are a lot of things you should consider, please see the headings down below for our suggestions and thoughts.

#3: Navigation and layout

#1: Which platform is right for your site?

Congratulations on your pre-existing website, but when it comes to revamping it, have you considered a change of platform?

While your existing website platform may have catered to all your website's initial needs, you should do your research, is there a better platform out there that can build on your website's needs and make it easier for viewers to accomplish the tasks you would like for them to do on your website? If the answer is yes, then what are you waiting for, a switch could be on the cards.

For us, we have remained loyal to WIX.com as it has allowed us to build a strong and reliable website that suits all of our needs. The website revamp with WIX has allowed us to add more features such as the forum and members pages. With WIX.com, we were able to choose a base template based on the type and needs of our website, and we were able to modify it to make it best suit our needs, the awesome thing about WIX, is that you can change basically anything and everything on a template or even create your website from scratch, we like to think of WIX is similar to Canva in a way, you can change the typography, the layout of pages, change the images used and add apps and functions on your website to make it the easier for your views to navigate and use.

#2: Colour schemes, typography and images

Adding colour, different types of fonts, typography and images can take your website from a bleak blank canvas to the ultimate masterpiece, but when it comes to your website, how you use all these factors in unison can say a lot about you and your business.

When it comes to revamping your website, think about how you can best use colour, such as your brand's signature colour to create a strong brand message throughout your site, remember you could use also colour through text, backgrounds and images. If your company has a style guide for communications materials, this would be very useful to have on hand and to have a reference to.

The style of font you use on your website should also be clear and concise, but keep in mind the feelings and emotions different fonts can have when used in certain situations. Whether serif or sans serif, the type of font you use should express and be in keeping with your brand's imaging and key messaging, also be mindful of the colour you use for fonts and where they are placed on pages.

Images are also strong storytellers, but these should be used to help aid in the meaning of texts and not just as placeholders. While images are great at captivating your reader's attention, they should not dominate the page and its layout. Images used on web pages should be kept in context, contrast and ratio with the layout of your webpages.

#3: Navigation and layout

There is nothing more annoying than when a site is hard to navigate, or the layout is very haphazard, something to keep in mind when revamping your site, it is easy for your readers to use? and can they get from point A to B with ease?

A big tip, we were taught as a part of the communications degree is to make it so your readers don't have to think, lay it out so simply in front of them that there can't be any confusion in what they want to do or what they are looking for.

A navigational menu ideally should feature on each page of your site, and the layout of your pages should be easy to scan with the eye, uncomplicated and uncluttered. If you are unsure, many platforms like WIX.com have templates that you can use and modify, or if in the worst-case scenario use the KISS analogy, keep it simple stupid.
